The story was taken down on Friday following an internal investigation, with an apology to Anthony Scaramucci, an outspoken ally of the president. Mr Scaramucci said it was not true, accusing the network of attacking President Donald Trump’s friends. Mr Trump responded by taunting CNN in a tweet saying: “FAKE NEWS!” “Wow, CNN had to retract big story on ‘Russia,’ with 3 employees forced to resign,” he posted on Tuesday morning. “What about all the other phony stories they do?” Journalist Thomas Frank, investigative unit editor Eric Lictblau – a…

Syria’s Assad preparing another chemical attack

The White House issued an ominous warning to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday night, pledging that his regime would pay a “heavy price” if it carried out another chemical attack this year. In a statement, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said that the United States had detected evidence of preparations for a chemical attack, similar to the preparations that occurred before an attack in April. Working on the night shift? It may hinder your body’s ability to repair DNA damage

Beware if you work in late night shifts, as according to a study, working at night may hinder your body’s ability to repair damaged DNA caused by normal cellular processes. The findings suggested that night shifts suppress the production of ‘sleep hormone’ melatonin, which regulates the internal body clock (circadian rhythm). They explained that the night shifts reduced the capacity to repair oxidative DNA damage due to insufficient levels of melatonin and may also result in cells harbouring higher levels of DNA damage. Over time, DNA damage that is not…

European Union antitrust regulators hit Alphabet unit Google with a record 2.42-billion-euro ($2.7 billion) fine on Tuesday, for illegally favouring its own online shopping service in its search results. The move indicates the European regulators will likely take a tough line with the Silicon Valley giant in two other ongoing cases. The European Commission said the world’s most popular internet search engine has 90 days to stop favouring its own shopping service or face a further penalty of up to 5% of Alphabet’s average daily global turnover. The commission found…

India-US alliance to check China will be ‘catastrophic’, warns Chinese media

Any attempt by India to become US ally to counter China will not be in its interests and could even lead to “catastrophic results”, a state-run Chinese daily said as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held their maiden meeting on Tuesday. “Washington and New Delhi share anxieties about China’s rise. In recent years, to ratchet up geopolitical pressure on China, the US has cozied up to India,” an article in the Global Times said. Underlining that India is not a US ally like Japan or Australia,…

Supreme Court allows limited version of Trump’s travel ban to take effect, will consider case in fall

The Supreme Court agreed on Monday to allow a limited version of President Trump’s ban on travelers from six mostly Muslim countries to take effect, and will consider in the fall the president’s broad powers in immigration matters in a case that raised fundamental issues of national security and religious discrimination. The court made an important exception: it said the ban “may not be enforced against foreign nationals who have a credible claim of a bona fide relationship with a person or entity in the United States.” The court also…
