A group of youths turned into saviours for a woman who was abducted by three men in a car. The youths were eating at a dhaba when they heard her call for help. They rescued her after giving a chase on their bikes. A mob later surrounded the car, pelted stones and it and then set it on fire. While two of the abductors were handed over to the police, the third managed to escape.
Around 9pm, the youths heard the woman shouting for help from a Hyundai Accent zooming past them near Begumpur Chowk. After chasing the car on their motorcycles, they forced it to a stop and rescued the woman. The men were dragged out and pinned down after a minor scuffle. “The woman was in a state of shock and semi-conscious when we rescued her,” said Aman Goyal, one of the youths who had mounted the chase.
By the time the police arrived, a mob had collected and started pelting stones at the car. Before the cops could stop the irate crowd, they set the car on fire. The fire department was then called to douse the flames. The car has been seized as evidence.
The victim, who is in her 20s, told the cops that she is a resident of Mangolpuri and knew one of the abductors. She had met him while working as a household help in Rohini. While she was returning home on Saturday, he approached her and offered her a lift in his car. When she boarded the car, she found two others in the vehicle.
After travelling for a distance, the youths started touching her inappropriately. They even tore off her clothes. When she shouted for help, they rolled up the windows of the vehicle.
The accused men were initially taken to Begampur police station after which the case was transferred to Mangolpuri as the abduction had taken place there.
“We have registered a case under IPC sections 354B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe) and 362 (abduction). We found that the woman was in touch with one of the accused,” said DCP (outer) M N Tiwari. A search is on to nab the third accused.
